New Poll

November 25, 2007 4:23 AM

lright, I really am going to do the one about stupid law suits. But not right now. Mostly because I'm lazy. Besides, I'm totally in the Christmas spirit now. I wasn't in October when they started putting up the Christmas decorations in stores. And I wasn't in November when there were a bunch of commercials for Black Friday sales. But, now that it's after Thanksgiving and it's actually almost December, I'm all about Christmas. I've been walking around singing Christmas carols to myself for a few days now.

So, the new poll asks what your least favorite part of the Christmas season is. Personally, I voted for the fact that it starts in October. Seriously, the Christmas season is awesome, but only because it's short and only happens once a year. I love that warm and fuzzy feeling I get from sitting around the Christmas tree with my family, but there's no fucking way I'm ready to start thinking about that when my main concern is what I'm going to be for Halloween and how I'm going to get home without driving. And, sure, I hate the commercialism of the whole thing. I mean, I'm going to spoil my kids rotten if I can, but I'm also going to try to instill in them that it's the people that make Christmas important, not the gifts.

Anyway, as for the last poll, Harry Shearer won by a wide margin, which I think is surprising--I really thought Hank Azaria would win.

My least favorite part is the Christmas music. I like the traditional carols, but the trite pop christmas songs by for instance Mariah Carey drive me up the wall. "All I Want For Christmas" has nothing to do with Christmas and everything to do with making money. Nothing says 'Christmas Spirit' quite like slickly produced cds cynically sold at every pharmacy, record store, stationary shop, and bookstore in the United States.

On wednesday - the day before Thanksgiving - I spent about half an hour in a bookstore and heard nothing but Christmas music, and none of them were, you know, Christmas carols. It really pissed me off.

Great poll idea, only it's 'Santa Claus'. What you listed is a series of butt-tastic Tim Allen movies. For that, I would actually be happy enough that I might even go buy the Mariah Carey x-mas album.

Easy Wade,

Ther are many, ok several, good non-carol x-mas songs. For example Grandma got run over by a reindeer, or do they even know it's x-mas, or that one with the line "give all the toys to the little rich boys" (a song which, contrary to that line isn't akin to promoting Reaganomics).
