Let's Find the Higgs Boson

o, the Large Hadron Collider is supposed to be turned on today. Stay tuned to Here is No Why for updates about whether CERN's particle collider creates a black hole that swallows and destroys the Earth or the entire Universe.
Anyway, while I'm not nearly smart enough to understand what the fuck the LHC is actually supposed to help us learn--something about particles, dark matter, and the nature of mass, from what I understand--I am smart enough to appreciate an extremely geeky yet catchy rap video about the LHC. Check it out:

I'm pretty sure they've had it on all week...and they've had particles collide too. But maybe I'm misinformed. At any rate, I'll certainly let you know if I see a huge mass of light-eating substance anywhere near Tucson.
Lauren, you ignorant slut. According to this news story, this was the first time protons were made to go all the way around the LHC. If you keep reading, you'll see that they plan on making them go the other way sometime soon. And that, eventually, they'll get them to collide.
It is clear, at least to me, that the LHC hadn't really been "on" before today and, more to the point, that nothing has collided yet. Or, more specifically, that protons haven't been made to collide yet. I suppose it's possible that they've collided other particles, but I doubt it. Still, I could be wrong, so feel free to post some news about how it's been going for a while. Until I see such evidence, however, I will continue to consider you an ignorant slut.
Also, I love you.
I 2nd that.
When I first read about this thing, some physisist was quoted as saying that the LHC would have the same chance of producing dragons out of nowhere as producing a black hole. Personally, I'm hoping for dragons.
Lerainng a ton from these neat articles.
