The Rumors of My Demise . . .

Ok, so the blog was down for a few days because my domain expired and the fuckers at Modwest didn't bother to give me any sort of notice and then I was too busy and lazy to deal with it. But it's back now, so there you go. I will resume regular posting shortly....

Concerning Rules and Metablogging

I assume that most bloggers are like me in exactly one respect: they all have unspoken rules for how they run their blog. This blog is a highly personal thing, so I try to maintain some sort of consistency, even though I doubt that anyone realizes that I do or don't do certain things, mostly because they're such strange things. One of these things, for example, is that I generally try to refer to people by the proper honorific and their last name. Sometimes--like when I get tired of writing "Mr." or determine that a certain combination ("Mr. Obama") just...

In Rainbows

Lots of people have already discussed the fact that you can download Radiohead's new album, In Rainbows, and pay as much--or as little--as you want. I think it's great that Radiohead is doing this, but mostly because it means that I get their new album for free and don't have to feel guilty about it. I don't think that it'll have any effect on the music industry at large, though. What's more important, though, is the music. So, here are my thoughts on my first listen. 15 Step. I think this is a really strange opener. It just sounds to...

I May Have Overestimated My Chances

That girl I went on that date with is back in the States, as it turns out. Not that that does me any good. While she was away, there was very minimal Facebook messaging contact. I didn't really get a good feeling about it. Then, I knew that she'd be back sometime this week, so I waited to see if she'd call. She didn't. So I messaged her on Facebook. She finally responded today, saying that she had a good time but that, right now, she's "involved" with someone, which struck me as rather odd. The way I see it,...

I Win

Alright! I believe that all of the issues with the blog have been fixed, including the comment issue. I believe it's now possible to comment smoothly. I've just tested the comment thing, and it seems to work fine, so leave comments, people! There are still some problems with the templates not being applied evenly all around, but I'm working on that and it's only an aesthetic issue. So, I guess I'll tell you the story of why the blog's been more fucked up than normal lately. It all started a long time ago when my commenting system got fucked up....

In Lieu of a New Post . . .

I'm not feeling up to writing a new post tonight, but I was inspired by Lily Graypure's latest post to finally do something I've been meaning to do for a long time. One of the things that I was really concerned about when I decided to move to my new domain was losing all my old posts. So, I started moving those old posts--and the comments--over to this blog manually. It's a pain in the ass, but I think it's worth it. Although I still haven't finished moving all the posts over, I have now moved one of my favorites...

Random Meme Thing

I've been trolling around the blogrolls trying to find cool new blogs. As it turns out, I'm even more trapped in the blawgosphere than I thought I was (get it--bLAWgosphere? Blogs about law? blawgs? God, lawyers are nerds). Still, I've added a few links, so check them out. Or not. Whatever. Also, if you know any cool or interesting blogs, let me know, whether they're law-related or not. And let me know if you'd like me to link to you. Anyway, I found this meme over at Butterflyfish which, as near as I can tell, is written by a 2L...

So What Do I Think?

Partially inspired by the Rising Jurist's "Ask tRJ" series and the fact that I've been too busy lately to keep up with the news enough to have stuff to be pissed about, I'm going to ask you guys if there's any subject you'd like me to address in my . . . unique manner. While tRJ offers well-thought-out opinions, however, I promise only to give you my own visceral reaction to whatever topics you guys might propose. Feel free to ask me about anything, from the war in Iraq to my stance on charging for ranch. Speaking of ranch, all-you-can-eat...

More Respect for Ringo Starr

Getting back into the groove of doing work has been slow going, to say the least. Although school hasn't started yet, I've got a long list of stuff I need to do during the break, most of it Law Review related. It's ok, though--I've had a decent vacation and now it's time to get back to work. I just don't want to yet. I don't have any new year's resolutions, really. If anything, I have two goals: keep from gaining weight and get more organized. My quest for increased organization encompasses both time management (I'm going to get a fucking...

"I'm Always Around"

So, I went home for the holidays and was divorced from regular internet access, thereby preventing me from being able to blog. I'm sure you were all having a great time with your families, anyway. Still, I kept a running diary of my trip and have now put up that running commentary, split up into various posts. I've screwed with the dates so that each entry appears to have been posted on the day that I wrote it. I hope everyone had great holidays and that everyone has a great new year. I've got several posts I've been thinking about...

Happy International Here is No Why Day!

At long last--the day that families all over the world gather around their computers, come to Here is No Why and celebrate the anniversary of the world's best blog. For it was one year ago today that I posted the first entry on this blog. It's been a long year and a lot of things have happened. I'd like to take this time to thank all of you who have read my ramblings, and especially those of you who have taken the time to comment. If you haven't taken advantage of the comments feature yet, I invite you to do...

Merry, Merry, Merry, Merry Christmas!

Yes, it's Christmas Eve eve and The Lovers of Sight and Sound have a treat for everyone. I've recorded a version of my favorite Christmas carol, the Carol of the Bells. Rather than using prepubescent boys to sing, though, I used my guitars. I just took the normal arrangement for the song, played the parts on the guitar, moved a few of the parts around an octave or two, and this is what I got. I don't know how satisfied I am with it, but whatever. The Lovers of Sight and Sound - Carol of the Bells Let me know...

Well, Fuck

As I was walking into school this morning, I saw that someone had written a message in pink sidewalk chalk right in front of the door I usually come in through. The message read "Abandon all hope ye who enter here." What a wonderful omen. I'm ready to be done with finals but, even though most of you have been taking finals for some time now, I just had my first one, Remedies, yesterday. I liked the class throughout the semester and kept up fairly well in the reading. I had something like 7 days to study for it, so...

150 Things to Love About Madison

I was hit by a confluence of influences today. First, Mr. Vice's recent series on his favorite TV shows got me started about what possible series I could start myself. Second, there was the recent post I did on 150 things about me. And, most importantly, the cover story on the current issue of the Isthmus: 150 Things We Love About Madison. Basically, it's a list of 150 things that make Madison awesome. I find this particularly interesting since Madison is, by far, the best city I've ever lived in, and I'm kinda sad that I'll (probably) be leaving here...

What Have I Become, My Sweetest Friend?

This may come as a shock to many of you, but I'm really not that much of a cynical person. I'm more of a hopeless romantic, really. I do my best to be a good person, even if I don't always succeed. But, the other day, I was confronted with a situation that sort of confused me. There were several possible explanations; one tended to suggest that the person was your standard douchebag-type person. The other tended to suggest that the person was just, well, good. I didn't even consider the possibility that the second interpretation might be the one...

Impending Milestone

As you can see by the small number at the bottom of this page, Here is No Why is quickly approaching it's 10,000th visit. I'm excited. Following the tradition established by RPM, I promise to buy a beer for the 10,000th visitor - assuming you live in the US. I predict the 10,000th visit will happen sometime tomorrow....

What the Fuck?

Alright - I don't know what's going on with the blog right now. For some reason, there are some issues with the commenting. There are still several behind-the-scenes issues I'm trying to take care of, as well. It's being worked on. You guys can help me out by trying to comment and letting me know how it goes. Just use the tagboard to let me know if things fuck up. On another note, let me talk about how much I hate people who answer phones for companies. Now, I know the standard complaints and I agree with them all. But...

New Feature!

You will now see a series of five stars at the bottom of each post. These stars should appear regardless of whether you're looking at the post on the main page or in the archives. In any event, these stars are for you to vote on each individual post. It doesn't take any time, so please let me know what you think. And let me know if you have any problems with the voting....

New Poll and Other Changes

I've changed the poll. The new poll asks what your favorite curse word is. You will have to discern what the options are yourself. To sum up the results from the previous poll, "What's Your Favorite 80's Movie?,": Tied for last were Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, Masters of the Universe (the He-Man movie), and Rocky III, each of which, deservedly, got no votes. Second to last was a tie between one of those goddamned Molly Ringwald movies and, surprisingly, The Blues Brothers, each with just under 11%. I'm really surprised Blues Brothers did so poorly - it's one...

More Updates!

Alright, everyone! I've updated my profile. By "updated," I, of course, mean "created." It still needs more work, which I'll get to. But, for the time being, that's what it is. Check it out. Also, I've placed a link to the Living on a Prayer song in the sidebar so that you can download it whenver. Please don't forget to listen and tell me what you think. The file that's available for download now is slightly different: I removed the harmony vocals and took out the long silence at the end. Further, there are still a few quotes that need...

Welcome!

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the new and improved Here is No Why! I decided to move the blog for several reasons. First off, I wanted to have the ability to completely customize the blog. Right now, I've pretty much copied over the format from the blog on blogspot, but that may change in the future. Please let me know what you think of the few changes that have been made. Some of these changes include some added graphics, a changed "recent comments" feature, and the ability to search the blog. I searched for the word "fuck" and it really...

A Few Housekeeping Issues . . .

Ok. A few things: 1. It has been brought to my attention that the comments feature on this blog wasn't working. Thanks to Chrystal, that has now been remedied. Feel free to leave comments, offensive or otherwise. 2. I'm adding a few links. The first is to legal badger, which, as near as i can tell, is a few law students ranting about law school. It's entertaining. The second is to Ann Althouse's blog. Althouse is a professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School, which i attend. I don't really get hers, but here it is anyway. 3. The...

A New Year, a New Blog

Everyone should listen to "A Long December" by the Counting Crows. I'm going to go watch Harry Potter on IMAX now. When i get back, I'm going to try to unravel the mysteries of "PopoZao" and also try to argue that polygamy should be legal....
