Close to Home . . . .

Holy shit. So, two medical helicopters crashed into each other as they were arriving at Flagstaff Medical Center in Flagstaff, Arizona. Six people died in the collision, and at least one other person was seriously injured. As some of you know, I went to college in Flagstaff. But what makes this even closer to home for me is that my house was literally about two blocks from the hospital where these helicopters were heading. I remember driving home many times and seeing the helicopters flying onto the landing pad on top of the building. I actually almost crashed a few...

Concerning Death Threats and Shootings

When I was a senior in high school, I was expelled because a girl in one of my classes accused me--falsely--of threatening to kill her, several other students, and a teacher. This girl and I did not get along. I thought she was arrogant and obnoxious. I'm sure she thought that and much worse things about me. On this particular morning, we were in homeroom, and the class was watching Channel One. I think that they were airing something about the shootings at Columbine High School. I remember being annoyed at the coverage and saying that I thought that various...

"Wouldn't Hold out Much Hope for the Tape Deck, Though."

Some motherfucking piece of shit stole my fucking car! Because there was a Badger game today, parking downtown was scarce. So I parked my car in a bus stop, following the example of several other drivers. Later, while on a Q run, I noticed that my car wasn't where I parked it. Figuring that it had been towed, I called up the police department, who told me who was doing the towing for the city. I called them, they told me where my car was, and I continued with my evening. Later, when Mr. Vice was driving me to my...

Kelly Nolan

One of the biggest local news stories here in Madison, Wisconsin over the past few weeks has been the disappearance of Kelly Nolan. Apparently, she vanished from downtown a few weeks ago. It was nighttime, she was out barhopping with her friends. She was last seen on State Street, the street that connects the UW campus to the State Capital, and the center of Madison's nightlife. Last seen, that is, until today. Police found what they're pretty sure is her body in a field not too far from my apartment. Last week, while getting lunch with Bluebunny and RPM, we...

On The List of Things I Didn't Deserve . . .

That ranked pretty damn near the top. Update I won't say what happened. I'll tell you face-to-face, but I can't do it here. Hiro Nakamura is a man with a lot on his shoulders. Although he has the ability to manipulate space and time, he was powerless to intervene when Sylar killed Charlie Ismaels, the love of HIro's life. Although Hiro went back in time to before Sylar killed her, he couldn't save her--it was as though the universe intervened and prevented Hiro from changing the past in such a way that would negate his reason for traveling into the...

Mental Clearing House

I wanna write about something or other tonight, but I don't really know what I should write about. There's a bunch of stuff on my mind, but I don't know how important any of it is. I don't know. I guess I'll write one of those random posts where I try to touch on a bunch of different topics. The Virginia Tech Shooting I don't really have much to say. It's kind of hard for me to believe that it happened, honestly. I'm sorry for the loss the friends and families of the victims suffered. Impending Graduation As the counter...

Why I Don't Want to Lost Weight

People are fond of telling me that, someday, I'll find a girl who appreciates me and who won't be stupid and superficial. People have been telling me that for almost twenty years. And it's a fucking lie. Maybe that's going too far--maybe people actually believe it when they say it. But, in any event, believing it doesn't make it true. And it is absolutely not true. Of all the girls that have rejected me because of my weight, two of them have had the guts to tell me that's what it was to my face. At least I can respect...

The Most Fucked up Thing I've Ever Heard

Kristin told me about this just before Con Law II this afternoon. It literally made me want to throw up. I can't believe how fucked up that is. Here's what happened. An 11-year-old girl apparently had a crush on a 16-year-old girl. The 11-year-old went over to the 16-year-old's house, where the older girl "convinced" the younger girl that she should have sex with several boys who were there. The younger girl proceeded to be assaulted by those boys. Afterwards, the younger girl went downstairs, where several other men, including the 40-year-old uncle of the older girl, gang-banged the younger...

Two Thousand Nine Hundred and Seventy Three

We all know what happened five years ago today. I don't think that this post is going to be incredibly original or more important than any of the other things that people will inevitably write or have written today. Still, I think I would be remiss not to write about what's on my mind right now. I invite anyone who reads this to share their own stories or write whatever might be on their mind. In the summer of 2000, my friend Kenny C. and I went to New York City for two weeks. We spent all of our time...

In Perspective.

My neighbor almost knocked down my door a few minutes ago. She was pounding and screaming and generally freaking out. I was in my boxers. I didn't know what was going on, but she was freaking out. I went into the hall and she's screaming "my baby's not breathing!" She was carrying the baby in her arms. The baby is very, very small and clearly not breathing. I have no idea what to do with a baby that's not breathing, so i run back inside, get my phone and call 911. Meanwhile, my other neighbor has opened her door and...

Buttercup Tapia

This is Buttercup. She was one of my two cats, the other one being her brother, Smash. At around 3am on Monday morning, i came home after the Super Bowl and found Buttercup hiding behind a bookcase. She was disoriented, drooling, dirty, weak, and twitching. I took her to the bath tub to try to clean her up, but it became apparent that there was more going on. So i took her to the emergency vet. The vet told me that this was most likely related to another incident a few months ago. The symptoms were similar and the prognosis...

Goddamnit . . .

In my last post, i said that i was happy that 12 of the 13 miners in West Virginia were found alive. As it turns out, that information was incorrectly reported by the news services. Only one of the miners survived. I won't be linking to news items from Yahoo anymore. I'm sorry for the mistake, both my own and the mistake that was made in West Virginia that led to what i can only imagine was unbelievable pain for the families. Fuck, man, i don't know . . ....
