You Probably Don't Measure Up

Although I have no evidence to support this conclusion, I'm fairly certain that there are a large number of female readers of this blog that want me. Like, sexually. While I'd love nothing more than to satisfy you all in some sort of huge orgy scenario, I'm really pretty much into monagamy. So here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to post some of the things I must and must not have in a woman. If this is you, then you win. If not, then please try to move on with your life and know that someday, somewhere, you'll...

Dumbledore Did Seem a Little too Flamboyant . . .

Did you ever wonder why Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, the most powerful wizard in the world, didn't have a wife or children? I mean, there was never any hint about any sort of romantic relationship. I always thought it was because he was a man who was too devoted to his work to make time for a family, so he never allowed himself to get tangled up in the whole thing. It turns out, though, that it's because he was gay. Moreover, he was in love with the man he would later have to defeat--the dark wizard Grindelwald. Personally,...

Tequila Night

As it turns out, I like Mexican food. Who would have thought? In any event, I ate so much ridiculous Mexican food tonight that I was neraly out of commission for tequila night. I swear, after chips and salsa, fajitas, water, and about sixteen margaritas, I was about to explode. And not at all buzzed. After some meandering, we ended up at the Silver Dollar, one of Madison's best dive bars. Co-SME showed up with his girlfriend, adding to the crowd consisting of me, pH, Mr. Vice, Mr. Utah, Emily-in-Chief, and New SAE. One of the night's main attractions, apparently,...

Best. Book. Ever.

Just finished reading the last Harry Potter. Here's what I thought, in no particular order as it's late, I'm tired, and I'm still processing the whole thing. In order to avoid spoiling people who haven't read it yet, I'm going to make it so that you have to highlight the text to read it. First of all, J.K. Rowling starts the thing off by letting you know that she's not fucking around--killing Hedwig and Mad-Eye in the first few pages was something I didn't at all expect, but it really made it perfectly clear that every character was fair game....

"The Quest Stands Upon the Edge of a Knife."

I'm done studying. Fuck that shit. I can't handle a single second more of it. I think my mind is now so full of crap about invitees, grantors, defeasible fees, perfection, specific performance, and false pretenses that I've forgotten how to count. Seriously, how the hell am I supposed to hold all this crap in my head for any period of time? Oh, right, I'm not--I'm going to forget every single thing I've "learned" over the past few weeks the second I walk out of the exam on Wednesday. And let me tell you, I fully expect for that second...

My Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Predictions

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the final Harry Potter book, comes out on July 21st. I take the Illinois bar exam on July 24th and 25th. I need to study pretty much every second between now and the exam. Therefore, I won't be able to read book seven until after the exam. There is only one possible conclusion: the universe hates me. Still, I'm ridiculously excited about the new book--Half-Blood Prince was pretty much amazing. If waiting for the three Star Wars prequels taught me anything, however, it's to stay the fuck away from spoilers. Apparently, someone has posted...

The Cover!

Scholastic released the cover for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows today. Here it is (hat tip: official correspondent Frank X.): I think it's pretty awesome. It opens up a few questions, though: what's Harry got around his neck? Where are he and Voldemort fighting? And what the fuck is Harry doing with his hand? I guess we'll have to wait and see--but I'm excited as hell....

Trust Snape

I went to Borders today. While there, I finally reserved my copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Come 12:01am on July 21st, I will be rushing home to sit down and read the final installment in the Harry Potter series. I expect to be both excited and sad. Of more immediate import, however, is the fact that I had to make a choice when I reserved my copy. I had to choose one of two stickers. One said "Snape is a very bad man," and the other said "Trust Snape." I chose the latter. This issue came up...

Harry Potter and the . . .

Yes, the title of the last Harry Potter book has finally been announced, and it is: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I can't fucking wait for this book, it's going to be amazing and so sad to see the whole thing end. Also, I think the fact that "death" is right there in the title is a pretty good indication of what we can expect. I can't fucking wait. On another note . . . While surfing Youtube in an attempt to procrastinate, I found this video, which is pretty much awesome. Check it out: I'm currently obsessed with...

A Great Time to Be a Nerd

While trolling around the Internet today, I found this awesome poster for the forthcoming Harry Potter movie. I think it's pretty much unbelievably awesome. I also found a few other new Harry Potter pictures, most notably one of Dumbledore's Army. I pretty much love that picture. You can see Harry in the middle, obviously, then Cho to his left, then . . . were both Padma and Pavarti in the DA, or is that the snitch next to Cho? In any event, then Ginny, then Zacharias Smith, then some other dude. Fred, George, and Neville behind Harry, Hermione to his...

New Poll and Save the Cheerleader . . .

Just watched the three-hour Heroes marathon on NBC. It was pretty much awesome. Heroes is definitely my favorite new show - I like it even more than Studio 60, which has yet to gel. Spoiler warning (highlight to read): What the fuck is up with Sylar? My theory is that he's like Peter - he can take other people's abilities, although he retains them. Or maybe he just has them all naturally. Regardless of how he got the powers, he's displayed telekenesis (which we haven't seen anyone else display), instantaneous healing, and flight or teleportation. Pretty awesome. Peter is becoming...

Why Can't I be a Kid Now?

I was looking around the internet, completely at random, when I saw the new version of Tickle Me Elmo, the T.M.X. Elmo. Now, I don't know how much I would have liked this toy as a kid, but it got me thinking: toys nowadays are so much more awesome than the toys that were available when I was a kid - and nevermind the toys I actually had as a kid. I mean, look at the multitude of new Transformers toys that are available. These are scale models of real-world cars that turn into foot-tall robots! That's fucking awesome. The...

Dean's Cup (Updated for Accuracy)

I remember the day at orienation my entire class was filed into a huge room and people started talking at us. One of the people who spoke to us was then-SBA President Nate Lundby, or whatever his last name was. He was generally entertaining, and he told us about all the great things that the SBA (Student Bar Association) does. One of the things he did that I remember most clearly was say something like: At most law school orientations, they tell you to look to your right and look to your left. And they tell you that, statistically speaking,...

Is Donald Rumsfeld an Idiot? You bet! Also, Bellatrix LeStrange and a New Family Member

Does he ask a bunch of rhetorical questions? Yes. Is it annoying as all get out? Gosh, yeah. Does he deserve to be shot? I think so. Do I have a link to some sort of corroboration about what I'm talking about? No, not right now. Would I appreciate one? Yeah, I think I would. In other news . . . Bellatrix LeStrange will be played by Helena Bonham Carter in the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie and, hopefully, in the last two movies. I gotta admit that I don't know how I feel about it....

Dorks

Alright. The time has come for me to fucking comment on something. I absolutely hate it when people who are absolutely not dorks claim to be dorks in an attempt to be cool. Listen to me: if you're super-popular and very socially adept, great. But don't fucking tell me that you're a dork because you read Harry Potter. Look, unless you can do the following things from memory, you are not a dork. Just so you guys know, i didn't look any of this shit up: Lord of the Rings Give at least one additional name for Gandalf.Name both of...

Loony Lovegood

So, Luna Lovegood has been cast for the next Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I've gotta say, i'm a little bit let down. This girl doesn't look too much like i pictured Luna. Still, i'll give her a chance; i didn't think much of the girl they picked to play Cho Chang at first, but she worked out ok. Luna's one of my favorite characters, though, so this girls got some big shoes to fill (big shoes to fill . . . big shoes to fill . . .). If you head over...

Bullshit . . .

It turns out that Carstensen will, once again, be holding us hostage for 40 minutes after our class is supposed to get out. Why? Because he's an asshole. This is clearly a violation of our civil liberties and it flies in the flace of the Bill of Rights and shit. This is how Harry must have felt during double Potions with Snape and the Slytherins....
